Community Involvement Projects

Nevada County Branch has a long history of community involvement. Over the years we have collaborated with other women’s organizations to develop programs to meet community needs, such as Nevada County Citizens for Choice and the Volunteer Action Center. These two groups went on to establish their own nonprofit status as freestanding organizations.

Between 2004 and 2006 our community project was Seniors Against Investment Fraud (SAIF). Members received training and materials from the California State Dept. of Consumer Affairs and then made presentations throughout Western Nevada County to teach seniors and others how to avoid being victims of financial fraud.

Since 2006 we have continued to focus on collaborative and partnering efforts. Our members individually and collectively express and demonstrate strong involvement in many aspects of community life. For Christmas, 2007, we put on a party for the women of a local substance abuse recovery home. We also conducted a hugely successful gift drive for the KARE Crisis Nursery and for the Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Coalition. We plan to make these two agencies the focus of our gift-giving again this year.

Following a well-received Branch program on foster youth, we partnered with the Independent Living Program in their joyous celebration of their high school graduates by providing dinner for the grads, family, and program staff. It was a wonderful experience that we hope to repeat this spring.
