Local Branch Scholarships
The AAUW Nevada County Branch CHARITABLE TRUST for LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP awards annual scholarships to a female graduate from Nevada Union and Bear River High Schools; a female graduate of Sierra College working toward a bachelor’s degree; and a re-entry scholarship to a woman who has interrupted
her education and wishes to continue toward a degree.
Donations are solicited and are tax deductible.
The Charitable Trust was established on October 27, 1970, with a donation from Isabel Hedrick
as a 501(c)(3) tax exemption trust.
The current trustees are: Cheryl Morris, Coordinator; Barbara Collins, Secretary; and Donna Russell, Treasurer.
Ann Shulse is President of the Nevada County Branch. Sandy Davison heads the Local Scholarship Team which
publicizes the scholarships, selects the recipients, and conducts fundraising activities for these efforts.
2011 Branch Scholarship Winners
Nevada County AAUW awarded four $1,000 scholarships this year: two Nevada Union graduates;
one Bear River graduate; and one Sierra College graduate. No Re-Entry scholarship was given this year.
Rachel Benoit, the Sierra College graduate, has matriculated to Chico State where she is in pre-nursing for acceptance
in the Spring 2012 program.
Elan Carnahan, formerly of Bear River High School, is attending CSU Long Beach, majoring in Environmental Science.
Laura Guzman, one of the Nevada Union graduates, is enrolled in a pre-biology program at UC Santa Barbara.
Chelsea Wadsworth, the second Nevada Union graduate, is attending Lewis & Clark College in Oregon where she is majoring in
Chemistry for the pre-med program.
Each of the recipients is very appreciative of the award as well as the efforts expended by the Branch members to insure
further educational opportunities for her.
